From the pandemic to the Runway: DMV’s prestige nonprofit, Kids Fashion Week Network, hit the National Harbor runway in style with their kid Entrepreneurs digitally

Kids Fashion Week Network kicked off with their 2021,”ONE NATION” Digital RUNWAY EXPERIENCE “with a birds-eye view opening that will take your breath away. The event started with Mrs.Ashley Darby from the Real Housewives of Potomac as the host introducing the show. As this was the third year for Mrs. Darby hosting the Kids Fashion Week Network, she was excited to be a part of the phenomenal journey.

The Runway Experience starts off Gabby’s world Design-the 8-year-olds fashion designer who created the gorgeous dress for Mrs.Ashley Darby and the kids’ models’ unique pieces. As the models walk down the runway, talented Trap Violinists Heru blessed the models with fantastic violin tunes.

After Gabby’s design, the third part opened with Grandma’s Gotcha by Elevera Patrick; the models walked the runway in Ankara African Prints. The methods of the prints give a cultural feel and paid homage to the motherland, culture, and history that is known to be part of the history of Africa.

Next up was Glow Harder by Dream Big DC, whose design style has an urban color design look. The designs complement the culture of the DMV with its bold but colorful look and stitching. Following that, phenomenal 18-year-old Designer Perfect 9nine “you make it a perfect 10” by Jonathan McPherson. The kid models went with a more laid-back but comfy style with the designer fit, ranging from denim, boot cut, distress, and mom jeans fit. The Designer creates a comfortable fit the everyday person can wear to go to brunch, run errands, and enjoy a day at the park.

The Museum DC, “Fashion is Art”- as their slogan goes is a popular Washington, DC clothing store that encompasses Art, pop-up events, and the culture of the DMV, better known as DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The kid models came out in the Museum DC clothes with swag, personality, and charisma, which embodies the natives of the Washington, DC area.

Mali Rose designs and garments stood out in the crowd for many reasons; for one, because it gives a conservative yet classy appeal, which you can wear at a business meeting, social gathering, birthdays, and many occasions that call for “elegance.” The models came down the runway to French Montana ft Swae Lee hit song “unforgettable played by Heru-The Trap Violinist

UDZINE Designs by Marilyn Blount: Pan Denim speaks its own “fashion” language, which aligns with a social cause. This design is so important, giving the unprecedented times we are in and how Kids Fashion Week Network could pivot their runway show at the beautiful National Harbor Capital Wheel. The models came down the runway with a unique denim stone-washed fit.

Journey Thru Life, the 8-Year-Old Designer, created her hand-picked fabric from Tanzania. The fabric focus on pop-out, vibrant, fun, yet chic colors. Many of us grew up having dreams, but only a few follow thru with them. Journey Thru Life exhibits that no matter how old you are, talent, passion, consistency, and strong family support, will guarantee you a bright future.

Parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and godparents, who imagine their young one’s on the runway, in front of an audience cheering their kids on, Kids Fashion Week Network is the nonprofit organization to consider. The annual Runway kick’s off every Spring of the new year.

Now, we all understand how the last year,2020, has gone by and its toll on all of us. But, not only did it affected adults, but also kids have been affected greatly by it. The kids that love to spend their time outdoors and meeting friends became bound to stay put in their homes. But, as promised, 2021 has only shown signs of improvement till now. After the uplift of this lockdown and curfew, we are finally allowed to slowly breathe freely. We can go out safely, enjoy the warmer days, reconnect with friends, eat out, and many more. This has allowed the kids to unwind as well. Now, due to the relaxed atmosphere, almost everything is slowly coming back to its place. 

Now, who is Kids Fashion Week Network?

Kids Fashion Week Network is a non-profit 501c3 tax-exempt company that provides a major platform for youth to present their talents to the world. The organization’s year-long program reaches youth in diverse genres, including performing arts, entrepreneurship, and creative industries, with many opportunities for growth, networking, and career development in their respective industries.

The program culminates with an annual three-day event, “Kids Fashion Week.” During the week, the organization host a networking event, a free “Workshops” fair that encourages learning through creative play, and the finale is the runway show!

How was this year KFWN Runway Experience pivoted?

Giving the country is slowly transitioning back to normal, Kids Fashion Week Network maintained following the state of Maryland mandate orders by ensuring all of the invited guests came to the National Harbor with a Face Mask, social distancing seats that was 6 feet apart, and temperature checked up-on arrival. The ONE NATION Digital Runway Experience 2021 had gone live this year digitally on Sunday, May.2nd.2021, meaning interested attendees had the option to purchase their tickets and watch the show in the comfort of their homes at 6pm eastern standard time.


The age demographic of the KFWN models had ranged from 6 to 16 years old. Focusing on the premise of unity, the “One Nation.” Digital Runway Experience 2021 main feature was to represent the youth, kid photographers, kid designers, and adult videographers and photographers.
