An idea from 2020 is now a lifetime event. The idea tagged A Miracle on Z Street is a Christmas extravaganza conceived and set into motion by Zion Church, a non-denominational, seeker sensitive church. The aim of the Church is to bring a contemporary Christian experience to more than 22,000 registered attendees weekly. Their mission is to help people experience God, engage in community, be equipped for ministry and empowered to serve.

Zion Church was founded in 2000 by Sr. Pastor Keith Battle, and has four physical campuses in the Greater Washington region, including Greenbelt, MD; Landover, MD; Ft Washington, MD, and Woodbridge, VA, and an internet campus, Zion Anywhere, which streams all services and events live. Zion also airs a weekly radio broadcast, “Weekly Wisdom”, on Sunday mornings on WPGC 95.5 FM, Majic 102.3 FM (DC), and 92.3 FM and 106.1 FM (Baltimore).
After it was first hosted in 2020 and was seen to bring joy and celebration to families across various communities, the event became a regular yearly feature. Year by year, more effort is always put in, and it is no surprise that the 2022 effort is the greatest. This event works as an outreach effort to support and encourage our community members often. Some of the regular features of the program include regular COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics, the ZFest Community Wellness Day, and the Gun Buyback program with First Baptist Church of Glenarden.

That is not all; Zion Church understands the challenges people face when it comes to getting food and aims to assist families to help ease the burden of rising food costs. This philanthropist church hosts monthly food pantries that provide free nutritious food to individuals and families. They partner with local schools and colleges for food distribution throughout the DMV.
In addition to the monthly food distribution, Zion Church partners with UniverSoul Circus to host Zion Church Family & Friends “Days at the Circus” yearly when the circus comes to town. This is an opportunity for the community to socialize and get to know one another. Through the Division of External Engagement and Impact, Zion Church hosts various events centered around family, youth, health, and wellness that provide unique storytelling and partnership opportunities. Each of our campus locations – Greenbelt, Fort Washington, Landover, Woodbridge, and Online hosts programming and events tailored to their community needs.
To ensure the safety of the attendees and the community, the Zion Church ensured that Miracle on Z Street, an outdoor event, had enough masks on hand for attendees to wear. The event focuses on the majesty of the season through an interactive Nativity scene, photos with Santa, fireworks, and carnival games for adults and children of all ages.
There were stunning Christmas lights and attractions, and the attendees were able to learn about the story of Christ. This year’s Miracle on Z Street Experience also included performances by national recording artists Todd Galberth, Kevin Ross, and Danni Baylor; We Are Zion Music & Dance performances, food, gifts and an inspirational message from Senior Pastor Keith Battle, the C.E.O.

Going into 2023, Zion Church plan to continue serving on a local and global level, providing their community and communities abroad with the specific support they need. Some of their planned efforts include wellness clinics that provide essential health screenings, testing, and vaccinations free of charge to the community. There is also a Back to School initiatives to give away backpacks and school supplies. In addition to protecting the community, there is a plan for a yearly Gun Buyback event where people can anonymously turn in guns and receive gift cards in return, and more.
