A DC Metro area special……

Everyone has a dream, but sometimes, you let it die or break boundaries to achieve it. This is the case of Sixteen-year-old Memphis Braxton. He loves to dance, but his parents think there’s something better for him. Will he quit, or will he break boundaries? With a life-threatening disease, he might just have a short time to achieve his dream.

33rd & Memphis is an indie feature written and directed by Shawn Cosby. This project started working on it during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic because she wanted to create something lovely amid such misery. This movie is a representation of family, love, and the arts. It is everything that you can relate to and watch with your family.

This movie will feature talents, especially from the DC area. It’s saddening that the DC Metro area is often side-lined regarding talks about talents in the entertainment industry.

Shawn Cosby has formal training as an actress and dancer. She is one of the voices of NPR in the upcoming indie film “Those We Don’t Speak Of.” The professional movie maker has appeared in several TV episodes, movies, and commercials, including House of Cards, Xfinity, New Best Friends, Step Up, and The Salon.

In addition, Ms. Cosby has choreographed for various recording artists and off-Broadway productions. She serves as Creative Director for the DC Cap Performing Arts Gala at Kennedy Center. She has received the Alvin Ailey Award for choreography and is widely regarded as a leading figure in the field of dance education. She has given master’s classes from Washington, DC, to South Africa.

Ms.Cosby, had an interview with FOX 5 DC about the upcoming movie. Good Day D.C. welcomed Shawn Cosby and the Center Stage Dance Academy kids to celebrate National Hip-Hop Day and discuss Cosby’s upcoming film, “33rd & Memphis.” Some of her students were featured in the movie. You can catch the excitement and anticipation for the upcoming movie from the interview.
